Pediatric therapist guiding a child through a movement and balance activity in the Vista clinic gym

Babies are born with primitive reflexes — automatic movement patterns like Moro, ATNR, STNR and Spinal Galant that help them survive and develop in the first year. They are meant to integrate as the nervous system matures. Sometimes they don't fully integrate, and the leftover pattern can show up later as a child who can't sit still, who wraps their legs around the chair, who struggles to cross midline, or who falls apart at transitions.

This class uses yoga poses, rhythmic movement and games chosen by a pediatric OT to give the nervous system the specific input those patterns respond to. It looks like a fun kids' yoga class. Underneath, it is targeted, repetitive movement work in a form children will actually do willingly and repeatedly.

This is an enrichment class, not a substitute for occupational therapy. If your child needs an evaluation, we will tell you that plainly.
