Classes / Handwriting & School-Prep
Small-group handwriting classes that start with the hand, not the pencil.
Ages 4–8 · Small groups · Vista clinic
Handwriting is the number one reason teachers refer children to occupational therapy, and it is almost never actually a handwriting problem. It is a grasp problem, a core strength problem, a visual-motor problem, or a hand that simply has not done enough work yet to be ready for a pencil.
So this class starts underneath. Kids build hand strength through play — tongs, clay, tearing, climbing — then move into pre-writing shapes, letter formation, spacing and sizing. Every child works at their own stage in a small group, guided by a pediatric OT who can see exactly which piece is missing.
Popular with families heading into kindergarten or first grade, and with parents who've been told their child's writing is 'behind' and want to do something about it before the school year starts.
We schedule classes when enough families ask for them — so adding your name here is what actually gets this on the calendar. It takes a minute, costs nothing, and commits you to nothing.
